Dillon P. Slater enlisted from Ashford, Fond du Lac Co., WI on April 20, 1861 as a Private in Co. I of the 1st WI Infantry. He was mustered out on August 21, 1861 at Milwaukee, WI. Dillon reenlisted in Co. H of the 32nd WI Infantry as a 1st Sergeant. He was discharged with a disability on July 29, 1864
